Although I don't light my sugar cubes to "caramelize" them because, IMO, I think that it changes and masks the flavor profile of the Absinthe too much, which I feel detracts from the drink rather than enhancing it. I prefer to just do the "ice water drip" on the sugar. That said, I keep it full of strike anywhere matches on my Absinthe tray along with my ice water fountain, sugar spoons and glasses. It's just too cool to not have this thing. Looks very Old World "retro" and adds a touch of class to my Absinthe serving tray. And if I do have a guest over to share a drink with, they can have the option of dunking and lighting their sugar cube if they prefer to. Some folks do prefer it that way.
